Not only do these rugs by Happy as Larry Designs look sweet but I can imagine they’d feel great underfoot. For a tutorial about how to do it yourself, check out this post by Shiny Little Things.

I want to make chair cushions for my dining room set. They would measure roughly 12″ x 15″ and if I’m figuring correctly that comes out to 1150, 1 centimeter felt balls per chair! Not sure I can afford that.

Is it 12 inches x 15 inches ???? Is it in rectangular ?

12 inches is around : 30 cm (15 felt balls)
      15 inches is around : 38 cm ( 19 felt balls)
Total : 15×19 = 285 felt balls if you make of 2cm felt balls

If you make of 1cm felt balls then it will be roughly around (30×38) = 1140 felt balls

1cm felt balls are lot cheaper we are selling in 60 USD per 1000 pieces and there is free shipping over 150 USD order

Here is where to buy the felt balls but I want to know about how many to buy to make roughly a 5×8 ft rug?

    • March 11, 2012

It’s easy to calculate how many felt balls needed for rectangular rug, Felt ball average size is 2.2 cm, you can easily through felt ball size. If you still need help let me know i will calculate and let you know.

How many felt balls would be needed for the 5×8, I am not good at math at all.

        • April 30, 2012

          A 5X8 Inches rug is : 152 cm (width)x 243 cm (height)

So when each balls average size in diameter is : 2cm

          - 152 cm will consume(divide by 2) : 76 felt balls
-243 cm will consume : 122 felt balls
          Now multiply both : 122x 76 = 9272 Felt balls
It will cost you around : 650 USD for 10000 felt balls plus shipping around for 20 kg parcel 320 USD = 970 USD

I would love to know where to get felted balls at a wholesale price. I love this rug and the links provide a pretty good resource to finishing it but with the cost of supplies (at least the ones I found) it seems like a costly craft. The kind where it is cheaper to buy a finished product rather than making it yourself.
