Ten things you didn’t know about me.

I don’t usually participate in meme posts (it reminds me too much of chain letters which I hate with a passion). Hey, there’s one thing you didn’t know about me already! But this one seemed pretty straight-forward and I thought you might like to know a bit about the lady who puts up weird and wonderful things on this blog every day! Thanks for the invite, Suzanna.

Ten things you didn’t know about me:

1) I DO sweat the small stuff. A lot. I try to be more forgiving of myself on this blog than I am in real life. I pretty much question every decision I make as a Mum and beat myself up a lot. On the plus side, it makes me far more empathetic with other Mums because I quite honestly don’t know how you all do it!

2) I’m a huge fan of Radiohead / Doves / The Shins / Belle and Sebastian / Iron and Wine. When it comes to music, the more depressing it sounds, the more I like it!

3) I have always been a huge TV addict. If something is on, I’ll watch it. Regardless of whether it’s about people getting bad nosejobs or being stuck in a house together. Moving pictures make me gaga. It is very lucky we live in a house that doesn’t get TV reception. If you joined the dots, you might see a connection between my not having TV and starting this blog… I hope I’m still this dedicated to posting when we move house next week!

4) Although there are so many places in the world I haven’t seen (hello, Spain!), my favourite place in the world is Oxford (UK). Those old buildings, cobbled streets and overgrown vines and hedges make for a beautiful little town. I think that’s what makes me love Christchurch so much. I’m very much into historical architecture and lush greenery (having not seen so much of it back in my hometown in Australia)

5) I didn’t pick up one iota of cool Canadian accent in the whole three years of living in Canada. I still can’t shake the ‘eh’ though…

6) I admire passionate people and I’m drawn to friends who have an open heart and mind. I try to limit my time with negative or judgmental people because it’s something I don’t like in myself.

7) As a young child, I used to read the Dictionary for fun!! I am a serious spelling NUT! Name a word and I’ll be able to spell it for you. Strangely, not such a handy skill to have these days but it does make up for my appalling mathematics skills.

8. If I had all the money in the world, I’d love to travel (and eat amazing food) in every country of the world but I think I’d always be happiest coming home. I like having a comfy place to come home to.

9) My entire back is tattooed with a Japanese scene – cherry blossom tree and surroundings. It was one of my sister’s first tattoos before she became famous. I love it so much but often forget it’s there (and scare fellow-swimmers at the local pool). Picture here.

10) I have an unnatural love of mid century architecture, spaghetti bolognaise, chocolate (duh) and blogging. If you are considering starting a blog, be warned: it’s terribly addictive!

Wow. All I keep thinking whilst I repeatedly look at those photos of your tattoo is WOW. It looks like body paint! I think if I saw you at the swimming pool I would think “Is that going to wash off?” And after hearing, (it seems like) everyone I know go on about how awesome Metallica are I am more than delighted to read about your exquisite taste in music. I love your blog and honestly feel like all is right with the world when browsing.

Speaking on behalf of Canada (they let me do that, eh), you’re the one with the cool accent. :-)

Glad to see I’m not the only TV addict. If I didn’t have kids it would probably be on 24-7. By the way, have introduced Poppy to the kitchiness of Punky Brewster. She LOVES it!!

Hey thanks for sharing Maddie. An interesting wee read indeed! Your sister looks pretty amazing too. Good day to you.

I agree with Emma – your tattoo sounds really nice. I have a small one on my back and I often forget it’s there. Most people are very surprised I have one at all but it my birthday present to myself on my 23rd birthday – can’t believe it was ten years ago! It’s very simple – my chinese horoscope (snake) inside flames (or a sun as Elijah calls it). I’m not brave enough to get it touched up though because I couldn’t handle the pain the first time!

Your tattoo sounds cool!!! That’s something I would love to do – a whole back tattoo, but I’m pretty sure I never will. I do have a tattoo that I got when I was young… it’s not something I thought through and now I don’t like it, so one day I will design something to transform it into something beautiful.
