Let the Li’l Quake Appeal Begin!

Last week, our city was picked up and thrown against a wall. Or to put it more scientifically, we experienced a quake at a magnitude of 6.3 at a depth of 5 kilometres with an epicentre smack bang in the city centre. 148 people died with still more expected in the coming days. 1/3 of the city was damaged beyond repair. Homes are still without running water and power. Roads are buckled throughout Christchurch. Liquefaction has caused widespread damage. Powerful aftershocks continue to rock the city. Yesterday, three of those measured over 4.1 on the richter – enough to shake things off shelves, de-stabilise weakened structures and shake already shattered nerves. Incredibly, the plucky Kiwi spirit manages to find humour in even the most bleak circumstances and people flock to pitch in and help complete strangers. Despite the devastation, people are picking themselves up and working to restore the beauty of our small city.
In order to help in some small way, I put out the call a few days ago for donations to an online charity auction with all proceeds going to NZ Red Cross. The response was incredible. Already, I have over 50 items to list (I will add them every day until I catch up) and more are coming in as the days go by. Thankyou to everyone who so generously donated items and thankyou in advance to everyone bidding. We may not raise millions of dollars but every single dollar will make an impact on the long road of recovery ahead.
