A Thousand Paper Cranes for Christchurch.

Since mentioning the idea the other day, I have been inundated with offers of paper cranes from around the world. Paper cranes are a symbol of peace and harmony and the Japanese belief is that one thousand of them can grant a wish.
I’m hoping that if a thousand paper cranes are folded in remembrance of those who died in the earthquake last week, it can also symbolise our wish for this city. A wish that this kind of devastation will never come again. For our city to stop shaking. For our lives to go back to normal.
If you’d like to join me in creating a thousand paper cranes for Christchurch, local business Sew Pretty has kindly provided their premises to receive them (they have also generously donated some lovely fabric for the charity auction too).
Once we have a thousand, we’ll string them all together and donate them to a local school who can keep this global wish safe and serve as a reminder of this devastating event which changed our city forever.

Is it the Aidenflield address or the one on this page?

I LOVE this idea! We have lots at our house from a recent japanese themed party. My origami obsessed 7 year old would love to make some for you and send them to you in NZ. Maybe if you get more than a thousand, which you might by the sound of it, you could send another lot to Japan for the very same reason.
I was actually thinking that exact thing! Absolutely shocking to see the destruction caused by the tsunami. Sending out love and prayers to Japan.
Expect some from the UK very soon!
Shirley Primary School would look after them : )
Whee, I used to live at 19 Cunneen! Such a cool idea Maddie, I’m going to learn to make them now!
I’m spreading the word & teaching the little ones how to make them.
A beautiful idea – am spreading it about! You’ll probably end up with heaps more than a thousand
when we lived in asia, one of my 2nd grade students made a thousand paper cranes…with the wish to be rid of her eczema. to put it lightly, imperfections aren’t exactly embraced there…
