The week that was: Red Shoes, Bargains & Earthquake Blues.

2011 June 19

As you know, our week here was pretty bad. We were hit with yet another 6+ magnitude earthquake with reports that there may be more to come due to it being on a brand new fault line. Families have been spending the week cleaning up the liquefaction (yet again) and putting everything back together. For some reason, I got a bee in my bonnet about decorating of all things! Maybe I’m trying to bring as much normalcy to the situation as I can…or maybe I’m just a decor fanatic…

Luckily we also celebrated Red Shoes Day this week to kick the winter blues. Here are a few pics from you guys on Facebook (the tartan sneakers are mine – I thought I’d pull out my favourite sneaks for the occasion)

I’ve been looking for a bedside table for Aspen to connect the beds (I’ve separated the bunk into two single beds) and I scored this retro beauty for ten bucks! I love how it fits perfectly in the space and gives me a little more storage.

I also finished hanging artwork on the hallway picture wall. Why oh why I do these things when we’re still getting high magnitude aftershocks is anyone’s guess. I really like the messy result (I’m usually tempted to make everything perfect when it comes to hanging artwork) and think it’ll look great when I paint the hallway green.

Aspen was also really sick this weekend which, coupled with the cold and rainy weather and bad news coming in from all over town, made it a pretty blue weekend. I’m hoping things will look brighter next week. On Tuesday, I’ll be celebrating my *cough* thirtysixth birthday! It’s also the day that an article I wrote for The Press will be published. It was my first ever article based on an interview. Interviewing is much harder than I thought it would be! Can’t wait to see how my words and photography came out… OH! I’ve also been working with another blogger on another printable for you guys – stay tuned for that mid-week!!

Well, though the week obviously sucked, I’m very very impressed with your fabo wall and that amazing table find!!! That’s more accomplished than many weeks around here.

And happy happy birthday!! I’ll be the same cringe-worthy 36 in 3 weeks on Bastille Day! (Hello, Fellow Cancerian, how cool that we’re so close in age/horoscope/design-eyes). I’ll be crossing my fingers for a very calm, not shaky, no aftershocks kind of day for you. ;)

Nice score on the $10 table – it’s gorgeous! Fingers crossed that the predictions of more quakes doesn’t come true…..
