Colour Me Happy: January.

2012 January 9
by Maddie

For our first ever Colour Me Happy challenge, we’re starting with something fun & easy:

Add something yellow to your bedroom (or your kidlet’s)

According to this source, “…yellow is the strongest colour, psychologically. The right yellow will lift our spirits and our self-esteem; it is the colour of confidence and optimism.”

What a great colour to start and end each day with! Adding yellow to your child’s or your own room could be as simple as featuring a cushion, a painted piece of furniture or a hanging lantern. If you want to go all out and paint your walls, that would be super awesome! If you’d like to start with something easy (and free), why not download my latest poster and frame it? It would make a great reminder as you leave in the morning.

What I did for the challenge: As we rent, painting walls was out but I finally found a use for an old Japanese banner I got in Tokyo many years ago. I also hung some bunting and a lovely yellow lantern I got for Christmas.

What a wonderful idea! Yellow is my favorite color! I backed the inside of a bookshelf with yellow and white striped fabric. My project wasn’t bedroom specific but could be done in any room that has a shelf. In our case, this bookshelf pictured is in our living room but I did something similar in my son’s bedroom, just with different fabric. Fantastic idea! Here is my Before & After of our family bedroom. I hung a DIY star mobile. The project cost me about $8 USD and it makes me smile every time I walk into the room.

    Hey,

    Love it!
I bought a bright green winter jacket last winter and it’s completely changed how I look at colour. Now I get things in colour whenever I can!

I’ll be on the hunt for yellow things this weekend!
