Fun Fourth Birthday!

I embraced technology this year and the invitation was a picture via phone text message…

Aspen had her fourth birthday party yesterday. Unlike last year, I didn’t have the energy to organise and play party games with the kids so we picked a location with a great playground so the kids could run free. The weather was perfect, the sausages sizzled and the face painter turned the kids (and adults!) into multicoloured party-goers!

We’d planned to have a theme to the party but after three changes over three weeks, it ended up being a mishmash of everything. My attempt at a dolly varden cake was a major flop (quite literally) but luckily there were enough fairy bread and cupcakes to distract everyone. I had such a great day because it managed to be just as fun for us parents as it was for the kids. I would definitely go with the park option again – it appealed to all of the kids ranging from two to eight years old. (Also, if you’re stuck for a four year old gift idea, the playdoh set we got Aspen was a mega hit).

P.S If you live in the Brisbane area, I highly recommend the Face Painting Company Wowee Creations. I called them with only five days’ notice and our face painter Sarah was fast, fun and very creative (Aspen got to be a rainbow tiger to match her rainbow dress!)

P.P.S After years of dietary restrictions (gluten & dairy), Aspen celebrated her first birthday with the same food as the other kids which explains her over-the-top excitement…
